Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effects of rapid rehabilitation combined with emotional nursing on uterine involution, gastrointestinal function, and depression in elderly female athletes after cesarean section.

Methods: This study included 100 elderly female athletes who underwent cesarean sections at our sports medicine clinic from January 2020 to December 2021. Participants were randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, each consisting of 50 athletes. Both groups received standard postoperative care, but the observation group additionally received a specialized rapid rehabilitation and emotional nursing program until discharge. Outcomes measured included the time and rate of uterine involution, the timing of first defecation, first flatus, and the recovery of bowel sounds, as well as scores on the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). Nurse satisfaction rates with the provided care were also compared between groups.

Results: The observation group showed significantly improved uterine involution times and reduced rates of poor uterine involution compared to the control group (P<0.05). They also experienced earlier first defecation and flatus times, and quicker recovery of bowel sounds (P<0.05). Post-nursing, SAS and SDS scores decreased significantly in both groups, with more pronounced reductions observed in the observation group (P<0.05). Nurse satisfaction was significantly higher in the observation group at 98% compared to 74% in the control group (P<0.05).

Conclusion: Rapid rehabilitation combined with emotional nursing significantly enhances recovery from gastrointestinal dysfunction, reduces depression, and supports uterine involution in elderly female athletes following cesarean sections. These findings underscore the importance of integrating specialized rehabilitation and emotional support in postoperative care for this unique patient population, promoting faster recovery and better overall outcomes.
