Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of comprehensive nursing interventions on improving the quality of life in athletes with Parkinson's Disease (PD). Methods: This meta-analysis sourced randomized controlled trials from PubMed and PMC databases focusing on comprehensive nursing care for PD. Studies were meticulously selected based on relevance to the topic and screened for exclusion based on predefined criteria. The Cochrane Collaboration's tool assessed the methodological quality of the included studies. Data analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4.1 software. Results: From a total of 614 articles reviewed, 14 were eligible for inclusion in this meta-analysis. These studies compared comprehensive nursing interventions in 1,664 PD patients against standard care in 1,395 control group patients. Significant improvements were noted in the comprehensive care group with marked reductions in the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale Part III (UPDRS III) scores (95% CI [-13.55, -3.56], P<0.0001) and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39) scores (95% CI [-8.77, -1.48], P=0.006), indicating enhanced motor and non-motor symptom management. Conclusion: Comprehensive nursing interventions substantially enhance emotional well-being, behavior, and overall quality of life in athletes with Parkinson's Disease. These findings advocate for the integration of holistic nursing approaches in the care strategy for PD patients to potentially extend life expectancy and improve life quality, emphasizing the critical role of tailored care in the management of chronic neurodegenerative diseases in athletic populations.
