Abstract

Objective: The objective is to explore the impact of systematic taekwondo training on the physical and mental health of college students. Method: A randomized, controlled experimental setup was utilized, involving the selection of 100 eligible university students who were randomly assigned to two groups: an experimental group and a control group, each comprising 50 individuals. The experimental group underwent a six-month taekwondo training, while the control group continued to take part in regular sports activities. Result: The experimental group showed significant improvements in physical fitness indicators such as lung capacity, flexibility, grip strength, balance ability, and coordination. The lung capacity increased from 3500.2±300.5 milliliters to 4000.5±320.7 milliliters, flexibility increased from 15.3±3.2 centimeters to 20.7±3.5 centimeters, and grip strength increased from 28.4±4.5 kilograms to 34.6±5.2 kilograms. Meanwhile, the total score of SCL-90 decreased from 160.5±15.3 points to 130.2±12.8 points. The changes in the control group were not statistically significant. Conclusion: Systematic Taekwondo training can significantly enhance the physical and mental health of college students.
