Abstract

Background: Youyang Yang Drama, originating from the ancient Nuo opera, stands as a pivotal cultural heritage of the Tujia people in Chongqing, China. Celebrated as a "living fossil" of Chinese drama, this traditional art form encapsulates the essence of Tujia culture, embodying the community's emotions and historical narratives. Given its profound cultural significance, the preservation and innovative evolution of Youyang Yang Drama are crucial not only for cultural heritage but also for its potential influence on community health and physical activity. Objective: This study delves into the historical evolution of Youyang Yang Drama and explores how this traditional art form fosters community engagement, promotes physical activity, and contributes to the mental and social well-being of its participants. By examining the integration of Tujia culture in the performances and the future pathways for its innovative development, this paper seeks to highlight the role of traditional arts in enhancing public health within cultural contexts. Methods: Utilizing historical analyses, this research traces the development of Youyang Yang Drama from its origins to its current status. It evaluates the physical and emotional engagement required by the performances and discusses how these aspects can be harnessed to promote physical fitness and cultural identity. Future innovative development measures for Youyang Yang Drama are also proposed to ensure its relevance and vibrancy in contemporary society. Results and Conclusion: Youyang Yang Drama not only serves as a medium for cultural expression but also offers a platform for physical and social activity that can enhance the health and well-being of the community. By fostering a more active lifestyle and providing emotional fulfillment through cultural participation, this traditional art form holds the potential to contribute significantly to public health initiatives. The continuation and adaptation of Youyang Yang Drama can act as a model for integrating traditional cultural practices into modern health and wellness programs, demonstrating the value of cultural heritage in promoting a holistic approach to community health.
