Abstract

The subject of English, with language as its carrier, is conducive to students' broadening of their international outlook, firming of their cultural self-confidence, and the formation of a correct outlook on the world, life and values. At present, all walks of life are getting closer and closer to the international exchanges, and English, as a more and more practical and daily language, is more prominent in its instrumentality and applicability, and is used more and more in the workplace. Fierce competition in the market leads enterprises to favor foreign language talents with a certain level of proficiency, which not only requires them to have solid basic skills, but also requires a certain degree of ability to practically use English. This paper investigates and analyzes the history of the reform of public English teaching in Chinese higher education as well as the current situation and analyzes and discusses how to reform public English teaching in higher education from the perspective of the cultivation of students' vocational ability.
