Abstract

Objective: This study aims to explore the effects of Kaihe acupuncture combined with Shuxuetong injection on neurological function, daily living activities, and quality of life in athletic patients recovering from acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Methods: A total of 100 athletic patients admitted to our hospital from June 2020 to June 2022, including athletes accustomed to high levels of physical activity, were selected as research subjects. They were randomly divided into a control group of 50 patients, receiving standard Western medical treatment, and an observation group of 50 patients, who received both Kaihe acupuncture and Shuxuetong injection in addition to the standard treatment. Both groups underwent their respective treatments for 2 consecutive weeks. The study assessed the clinical efficacy by comparing pre- and post-treatment scores using the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) for neurological function, the Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scale for life activity ability, and the European Five-Dimensional Health Scale (EQ-5D) for quality of life. Results: The observation group showed a significant improvement in clinical outcomes, with a total effective rate of 84.00%, compared to 64.00% in the control group (P<0.05). Post-treatment, the observation group exhibited significantly lower NIHSS scores and higher ADL and EQ-5D scores than the control group (P<0.05), indicating enhanced neurological function, better daily living capabilities, and improved quality of life. Conclusion: The combination of Kaihe needling and Shuxuetong injection markedly benefits AIS recovery in athletes by effectively enhancing neurological functions, daily activity abilities, and overall quality of life. This integrative treatment approach offers valuable insights into comprehensive stroke rehabilitation strategies, particularly for patients with high physical activity levels, underscoring its clinical significance and potential application in broader therapeutic contexts.
