Abstract

As chronic diseases such as diabetes and hypertension become increasingly prevalent globally, there is a growing concern over the complications associated with these conditions, particularly in athletes who may experience exacerbated health issues due to their intense physical activities. Among these complications, constipation is notably prevalent and impactful, often affecting athletes' performance and recovery. Traditional Western treatments for such complications offer limited efficacy and are frequently associated with adverse effects, which are less tolerable in aging or vulnerable populations, including athletes. Consequently, there is a rising interest in integrating alternative therapies like acupuncture into treatment regimes. This study reviews literature from the past three years, analyzing the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for treating constipation, specifically within the context of athlete health management. Results confirm that acupuncture can significantly alleviate constipation symptoms, offering a viable and safe alternative to conventional treatments. This not only enhances athletes' overall health but also their performance, demonstrating the valuable application of acupuncture in sports medicine.
