Abstract

This study investigates the potential of umbelliferone (Umb) in mitigating depressive-like behaviors induced by chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) in rats, with implications for enhancing mental health and resilience among athletes. Umb at doses of 20 and 40 mg/kg was found to significantly reduce depressive behaviors, as evidenced by increased sucrose consumption and decreased immobility in tail suspension and forced swimming tests. The mechanism appears to involve the down-regulation of the HMGB1/NF-κB pathway through the up-regulation of SIRT1, indicating that Umb may possess effective antidepressant properties useful in sports psychology
