Objective: This review aims to explore the efficacy and safety of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in managing uric acid nephropathy among athletes, an increasing concern given its implications on performance and health. Background: Uric acid nephropathy, primarily responsible for gout-related complications, is becoming more prevalent, particularly in athletic populations who may be at higher risk due to dietary and physiological factors. While conventional Western treatments focus on uric acid suppression and inflammation control, they often fall short in efficacy and are associated with significant adverse reactions. Methods: This paper reviews the latest advancements in TCM for treating uric acid nephropathy, drawing on traditional concepts of syndrome differentiation and treatment. It synthesizes current research from the perspectives of etiology, pathogenesis, therapeutic approaches, and drug safety, providing a comprehensive overview of TCM strategies tailored for athletes. Results: TCM has shown promising results in managing uric acid levels and mitigating kidney damage without the pronounced side effects commonly associated with Western medications. Techniques and herbal remedies specific to TCM offer a holistic approach, addressing not only the symptoms but also the underlying imbalances that contribute to uric acid nephropathy. Conclusion: Traditional Chinese Medicine presents a viable alternative or complementary strategy for managing uric acid nephropathy in athletes, emphasizing personalized treatment plans that align with the individual health profiles and needs of this population. Further clinical studies and integration of TCM principles into mainstream sports medicine practices could enhance treatment outcomes and support the overall health and performance of athletes.
