Abstract

Objective: This study aims to assess the impact of diverse psychological interventions on the mental health and overall satisfaction of adult patients with acute upper respiratory tract infections. Methods: In a parallel, randomized controlled trial at our hospital, 109 adult patients diagnosed with acute upper respiratory tract infections were equally randomized into two groups: the conventional care group (n=54) and the psychological intervention (PI) group (n=55). The conventional care group received standard medical treatment, whereas the PI group received comprehensive psychological interventions alongside conventional care. Key metrics evaluated included the duration until symptom improvement, Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) anxiety scores, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) mood scores, and patient satisfaction with nursing care. Results: Patients in the PI group experienced faster symptom improvement compared to those in the conventional care group (P<0.05). Post-intervention assessments showed that the PI group had significantly lower GAD-7 scores and PANSS negative mood scores, and higher PANSS positive mood scores than the conventional care group (P<0.05). Additionally, the satisfaction rates regarding nursing care were notably higher in the PI group (P<0.05). Conclusion: The implementation of multiform psychological interventions in the treatment of acute upper respiratory tract infections significantly enhances mental health outcomes, reduces negative moods, and improves patient satisfaction with nursing care. These findings underscore the benefits of integrating psychological care into standard medical treatment for patients with acute respiratory conditions, promoting a holistic approach to patient health and recovery
