Abstract

The research aimed at determining the effect of a proprioceptive exercise program on balance in youth speed skaters. A quasi-experimental study was conducted. Three skating clubs were randomized, two clubs were the control groups and one was the experimental group. 49 young people of both genders between 11 and 15 years participated. The proprioceptive exercise program was applied to the experimental group, and the control received a conventional training program. A stabilometric test was performed, levels of stability, amplitude and frequency of oscillations and static balance were measured. Both groups improved balance frequency in both directions, with eyes open and closed (p0.050). No significant differences were found in the measures of change between groups in any of the variables studied (p>0.050).
